Bean, a 1985 graduate of Central Davidson High and former volleyball coach at the school, was diagnosed with invasive lobular carcinoma, a rare, aggressive type of breast cancer, late last year. Her insurance company declined to pay for the type of treatment she underwent for the cancer. She and her husband, Bill, have four children.
A $3 temporary membership is required for the private club, located at 339 N. Shore Drive. Children under 16 are admitted free with a parent.
