Blast heard at mall in Nigeria capital; none hurt

ABUJA, Nigeria (AP) ? An official says an explosion has occurred near a building of popular shops in Nigeria's capital.

National Emergency Management Agency spokesman Yushau Shuaib told The Associated Press that no one hurt in the blast, which occurred late Tuesday and that the building is intact.

The explosion occurred about a week after a bomb went off across the street from a popular nightclub in Abuja, a city where many foreign diplomats and local politicians live.

A radical sect known as Boko Haram has launched multiple attacks across Nigeria's north, but strikes on the capital are less common than elsewhere in the region.

Boko Haram has been held responsible for more than 620 deaths in Nigeria this year alone, according to an AP count.
