Munday, Texas, High School standout Dee Paul officially announced he will attend Texas Tech as a member of the Red Raiders? football and track teams Saturday on Wichita Falls TV station KFDX.
Paul chose the Red Raiders in favor of offers from Baylor, Oklahoma State, Tennessee and SMU to whom he had been committed to earlier in his high school career.
Running track is a priority for Munday?s primary quarterback and defensive back. He sees himself with a better future in track after his college career is over so he scratched SMU because the Mustangs don?t have a men?s track team.
Paul cut Oklahoma State because the Cowboys wanted him to solely play football and he cut Baylor and Tennessee due to location from home. Munday is about 140 miles east of Lubbock.
The senior, who was the MVP of the 1A Division II State Championship game against Tenaha, kept his commitment to the Red Raiders a secret until revealing his decision on the 10 p.m. newscast Saturday, but alerted the Texas Tech coaching staff and RedRaiderSports.com earlier.
The entire football coaching staff as of Saturday visited Paul at his home Saturday morning and he talked about his commitment with RedRaiderSports.com on Friday on the condition it kept the commitment under wraps until he made his decision public the next day.
In addition to the Texas Tech football staff, Paul was recruited by the Red Raiders? head track and field coach Wes Kittley.
?The interest that they showed me was great and a lot better than those other schools,? Paul told RedRaiderSports.com.
