2013 Arden-Arcade Spirit of Freedom Parade ? July 4th
The Sheriff?s Community Impact Program (SCIP) would like to recognize Drummers with Education (DWE) for their award winning performance this past week.?
July 4th was a very hot day and by 10 a.m. when the parade started, the temperature was already hovering 100+ degrees.? The humidity was rather high, too.? Nonetheless, DWE Director, Katoya Moore, had her drum line ready to rock, and that they did!
Most of the drum line scholars are from DWE?S Summer Empowerment Camp at Encina Prepatory High School.? Scholars range in age from 5 to 16 years old. ?
The scholars did a fantastic job as they marched the mile-long route on Fulton to Cottage and then on to Bell with the parade ending at Howe Park.
As members of the drum line marched the mile-long route, they provided the parade spectators with powerful and rhythmic sounds.? What is impressive about this particular group, most of whom participating in DWE?S Summer Empowerment Camp at Encina, is they had only five days to practice together and some had never played the drum nor read music!
Nice job, Katoya? And way to go, Drum Line Scholars!!!
SCIP and Youth Services Unit would like to thank the Fulton-El Camino Recreation and Park District for allowing participation in this great community event.? ?This year we were very excited to learn that Drummers With Education won Best of Show for their drum line performance.?
Congratulations to DWE for their award-winning performance!?
Bravo!
