The Uni?ver?sity of New Mex?ico Small Busi?ness Insti?tute (SBI) at the Ander?son School of Man?age?ment is now accept?ing appli?ca?tions from small busi?ness own?ers for the Fall 2012 and Spring 2013 semes?ters for assis?tance in devel?op?ing busi?ness projects such as mar?ket?ing, expan?sion, financ?ing and busi?ness?plans.
Grad?u?ate and under?grad?u?ate stu?dents at UNM Ander?son, guided by fac?ulty advi?sors, offer con?sult?ing exper?tise in cre?at?ing new busi?ness plans, expan?sion plans and mar?ket?ing plans to small busi?ness own?ers in the Albu?querque area. The cost for this ser?vice is $500. Many pri?vate con?sult?ing ser?vices can cost up to sev?eral hun?dred dol?lars per?hour.
?Not only is the fee a rea?son?able price for the amount of time and effort put into the report,? said SBI Coor?di?na?tor David Ham?mitt. ?But the stu?dents also have access to dozens of busi?ness data?bases that would nor?mally cost busi?ness own?ers thou?sands of dol?lars to use. Busi?nesses are lit?er?ally sav?ing money while at the same time receiv?ing the research in pro?fes?sional con?sult?ing reports.?
Start?ing this fall, the SBI will also help small busi?ness own?ers in build?ing web?sites and social media apps. The cost of par?tic?i?pat?ing in the web?site project is $600.00. Dr. Raj Mahto, Direc?tor of the SBI, is pleased the pro?gram has grown to include this impor?tant com?po?nent for busi?ness owners.
?We are excited to be able to expand and help the com?mu?nity in this endeavor,? says Dr. Mahto. ?Not only does this ser?vice help busi?ness own?ers develop a good web?site and a strong social media plan, it is also a great learn?ing expe?ri?ence for our students.?
Due to high demand, space for the Fall semes?ter is lim?ited. To apply, visit Small Busi?ness Insti?tute and click on Client Appli?ca?tion. To apply for the web?site project, busi?ness own?ers need to spec?ify that they need a web?site designed under Tech?nol?ogy Focus. The dead?line to apply for both pro?grams is Wednes?day, Aug.?29.
Since its found?ing in 1978, SBI has suc?cess?fully helped more than six hun?dred local busi?nesses includ?ing startup com?pa?nies, expand?ing busi?nesses, non-profit orga?ni?za?tions, and fam?ily busi?nesses.
