CHICAGO (AP) ? Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn says he?s happy to impose his restrictive framework for gambling expansion on the original bill passed by lawmakers.
Lawmakers have refused to send Quinn the bill because they fear his veto of a measure to add five new casinos and slots at race tracks. Quinn?s framework would allow five casinos, including one in Chicago, but not the slots at race tracks.
Lawmakers put much of Quinn?s framework into a bill but didn?t call it for a vote last week at the start of the fall session. They say a bill can?t pass without slots at tracks. Quinn dismissed that effort as a ?charade.?
He says it?s not his interest to promote gambling, but he made his comments at an event to promote a new lottery ticket.
