How to improve your communication in a relationship

Could you give some relationship advice on how men who are not good with words can improve their communication?

Well, the first thing to do is to have a little bit of compassion towards yourself. If you?re not particularly good with words, don?t feel you have to be Shakespeare in the way you express yourself and communicate. Recognize that if you?re not good with words, there?s probably something else that you are good at, and there are other reasons why she?s attracted to you. I find this realisation helps me when I?m in any situation where I need to have a serious chat with a girl.

So maybe it?s a time to look at taking the relationship to a new level. Maybe it?s a time when we?re both exploring our thoughts, and we?re not sure whether we should be continuing the relationship. Or maybe it?s a time when we?re going through the process of breaking up. For me, those moments feel like I don?t always express exactly what I want to be saying. So I find myself using email to be able to better express myself.

I also try to write my thoughts down on paper, and give it to the girl. What I?ve found is that by doing that, I have the time to be able to process what I?m writing, and I then have the time to be able to go back and reflect on what I?ve written, and make sure it is exactly what I want to be able to say. That way, you ensure that there?s going to be no potential for the information to be misconstrued. The advantage of such a method is that it will often give me some ideas for verbal communication, and I can then expand on what I?ve written.

So don?t be afraid to take advantage of written mediums. Letters, I think, are a great way to go about doing things because they?re a little bit more personal, and the other advantage of taking that avenue is that a lot of the time you get some self-awareness on where your thoughts are at.

Just by being able to take whatever?s on your mind and dumping it down on a bit of paper, allows you to clarify your thoughts in a constructive manner. Additionally, we tend to pay more attention to the quality of language we use when we write.

It is important to be able to express what we?re saying through words. But keep in mind that women don?t operate in the same way as men. Women operate on the level of emotions. So your expression of your emotions is going to be far more powerful than your ability to articulate exactly what you?re trying to say anyway.
