Memorial Day ceremonies
Edgewood Independent School District will have its 24th annual Memorial Day ceremony, co-hosted by the Edgewood High School Class of 1967, at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Mata Stadium, 1650 W. Thompson Place. The annual event especially pays tribute to the fallen U.S. troops from the Vietnam War, as well as those held as prisoners or listed missing in action.
Fort Sam Houston !National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach, will hold its annual Memorial Day program honoring the fallen U.S. troops from all wars at 9:30 a.m. Monday, with a musical prelude at 9 a.m. Larry Romo, a San Antonian and director of the U.S. Selective Service System, will be the keynote speaker. The event will be held in the new assembly area on the cemetery's east side.
Harlandale Independent School District will hold its annual "Remembering Our Heroes" at 9 a.m. Monday at Harlandale Memorial Stadium, 4002 Roosevelt Ave. The ceremony will include a tribute to Sgt. Steven Talamantez, a McCollum High School graduate killed in action in Iraq in 2011. Slated speakers include state Sen. Carlos Uresti and state Rep. Joe Farias.
